Last Sunday I ventured to take a peek at the ABS-CBN program, “The Buzz.” I regretted doing so immediately!
It has no socially-redeeming values whatsoever. It’s a show that thrives on mongering rumors, intrigues, scandals and making issue with the hurts of people. I wonder if the sanctimonious Gaby Lopez watches this show. I would suppose he doesn’t and doesn’t really care. It’s all about giving the ‘masa’ what it wants and making money, money, money. After all, what can you expect of a person who declares he would take full responsiblity for the Wowowee stampede but never really does?
What I do admire, however, about The Buzz is that its hosts are tailor-made for the show. There’s Boy Abunda, a horrid dresser whose manner of speaking and laughing are as fake as pirated DVDs (they sound real, look real, but deep inside you know they’re fake). Abunda probably thinks he’s GQ material. Yet, he’s perfect: a tasteless dresser for a tasteless show.
Then there’s Christy Fermin. Her whole career has swirled around rumor and scandal that her soul is probably dead from all the lies and pain she has spread around. In fact, if you were to look at a dead person, all made-up to hide the face of death, suddenly come alive and talk, Christy Fermin would look like that. Even her voice sounds like a perfect rumor-monger.
Then there’s Kris Aquino. She could have been an influence to the youth, being the daughter of a martyr. Instead, she chooses to spew out junk. If you think, “Game Ka Na Ba” and “Deal Or No Deal” are not junk, think again (sorry to burst your bubble if you like those shows). Yet, what can you expect from an airhead?
I thought the guesting of Lani Misalucha would salvage the show somehow, but it wasn’t really about welcoming her return to the Philippines. Apparently she signed a new contract with ABS-CBN after being pirated from GMA-7, so they were merely trumping her up in preparation to using her on upcoming shows. So I changed the channel to take a look at GMA-7 and perhaps say something nice about them. Lo and behold, they had a similar program of intrigues, rumors and scandals!
Here we have 2 major media networks competing with each other on who had the more sordid junk. And we wonder why our country is going to the dogs!
I turned off the TV. I wish, though, I could turn off those shows permanently!
