Hoping for FPJ’s Recovery

December 13th, 2004

The sad news today is that Fernando Poe, Jr., is in a coma following a stroke and the prognosis doesn’t look promising.

FPJ is my idol. I liked his flicks. To me he is a living legend, which is why I was dismayed when he ran in the last presidential elections. He was obviously being used as a pawn by power-hungry politicians who couldn’t run on their own merits, simply because they had none.

The only good thing about Da King’s campaign is that his handlers –Sens. Tito Sotto and Ed Angara– provided comic relief. That’s why there should be a clamor for Sen. Sotto’s return … to showbiz. Perhaps he will because he’s been quiet on the political front.

I’m glad Rep. Francis Escudero, FPJ’s spokesman, didn’t use the occassion of breaking the news about Poe’s condition to lambast the Arroyo government. I’m definitely not an Arroyo fan, but things must be placed in their right perspective. Still, I’m not ruling out the probability of the oppositon camp to use FPJ’s condition to take pot shots at the government. That’s how low Philippine politics can stoop.

In any case, I join the legion of FPJ fans in hoping for his recovery. He remains a veritable inspiration for many Filipinos!
