The Airhead

December 2nd, 2003

Kris Aquino, in one of her talk shows, said about Raul Roco –who just formally declared his candidacy for President: His supporters won’t fill a bus. It didn’t matter if Roco is consistently placing first in surveys. But leave it to Kris to make statements like this. After all, she didn’t become famous for intelligence.

In fact, much of her fame came from embarassing the memory of her martyred father, Ninoy Aquino. Her latest was the public quarrel she had with married lover, Mayor Joey Marquez, after which she declared before nationwide TV that she could have contracted a sexually transmitted disease from him.

Then, in a moment of high drama that completely out-did all those Taiwanese soap operas we’ve been dumped with, she reconciled with her mother, former President Cory Aquino. This shot the ratings of ABS-CBN through the roof and endeared Kris to the underdog-loving Filipinos.

That’s showbiz! In reality Kris Aquino is being whispered about as an airhead. So guess who she’s implicitly endorsing for President? Who else but Fernando Poe, Jr! Raul Roco may just be too difficult for her to comprehend.

It’s mind-boggling that some media sectors are saying Kris Aquino is the real heir-apparent of her father Ninoy.

Egzkyuze Me! Ninoy Aquino was intelligent, witty and politically cunning. He struck fear in the heart of Ferdinand Marcos just by speaking. He was charismatic because he knew the pulse of the people.

What does Kris Aquino have but a high-pitched voice and a penchant for married men? She moves and breaths within the make-believe world of show business. To attempt to go beyond that would tax her mind.

So it’s no surprise she would endorse Fernando Poe, Jr. She’s merely stepping into character.
