If you’re pro-Erap and believe that Joseph "Erap" Estrada is innocent, there’s nothing else you can do but pray for him. He himself got into this mess. Move on and help build this benighted country of ours.

If you’re anti-Erap, don’t gloat. This episode is an embarrassment to our country. We’ve convicted a former President. Move on and help build this benighted country of ours.

No need to say more. Too many of our politicians are falling over themselves in trying to say something erudite about the conviction of Estrada.

It’s sickening.

Why should we not gloat over Erap’s conviction? Why should we be ashamed and embarrassed of convicting a former President?

Heck, the French during their Revolution beheaded their former king in public and was darn proud of it.

So again, why be ashamed of convicting a former president if he was found guilty?

Isn’t this the way to move forward and build our country? Apply the rule of law and punish those who violate it even if they were once high and mighty?

So don’t tell me you’re in the ‘middle ground’? I hope not, because the Bible says that the hottest and most dreadful place in hell were prepared for those who did not make a stand on any issue during their lives.

Nice post, Jhay. However, citing the French revolution is not an ideal comparison. The French didn’t elect their king; we elected Erap. Thus, it’s our embarrassment that we convicted the one we elected and, as one of Erap’s mistresses –Rene Saguisag– likes to always point out, elected with the highest margin of victory in Philippine history.

Indeed, we applied the rule of law. But weren’t the Filipinos amply warned that Erap was immoral with his boozing, gambling and womanizing? Yet, we put him in office! That’s our embarrassment!

No, I’m not in the middle ground. I’m pro-Filipino and it’s my desire to see Filipinos mature in their choices. For example, what is the burning ambition of the average Filipino nowadays? It’s to be a contestant in Wowowee. Susmaryosep!

And pleeeaaazzzeee, don’t slap me with the Bible! Do you actually believe in that book? We’re supposed to be Bible-believing Christians; the only Christian nation in Asia, we like to brag. Yet, we’re one of the most corrupt!

The way to move forward is not to elect an immoral president, celebrate it like crazy and then later send him to jail because he made immoral choices. That’s the way to be embarrassed!
